Catana Vengeance is a project developed at in the Building Virtual Worlds course at Carnegie Mellon University’s Entertainment Technology Center.
The goal of the project is to create both a virtual and physical spectacle. Players are equipped with wearable, hand-crafted cardboard armor embedded with Xbox adaptive controllers, allowing them to engage in physical combat in the real world while their on-screen avatars mirror their movements and attacks in real time.

Art & Craft

Since physical combat is central to the experience, immersion was a key focus of our design. The team hand-crafted distinctive cardboard armor and helmets, supported by safety helmets and protective vests worn underneath. Environmental decorations were also created to transform the final playing area at the ETC Festival into an immersive performance space.
